See If You May Qualify for a CGM

Medicare Part B may cover a prescribed Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) and related supplies for beneficiaries who meet applicable Medicare coverage requirements.  

Not necessarily. Medicare CGM coverage may be available if you are treated with insulin or have a qualifying documented history of problematic hypoglycemia. Other Medicare coverage requirements also apply. 

 Yes. A treating practitioner must prescribe the CGM, and the prescribed CGM must meet applicable Medicare and FDA-related coverage requirements.  

Yes. Medicare requires an in-person or Medicare-approved telehealth visit with your treating practitioner within six months before the CGM is ordered to evaluate your diabetes control and confirm that applicable coverage criteria are met. Continued coverage requires follow-up with the treating practitioner every six months.

Not necessarily. Under Original Medicare, after the Part B deductible is met, a beneficiary generally pays 20% of the Medicare-approved amount when the supplier accepts assignment. Your actual responsibility can also depend on secondary insurance and other coverage factors.
