CHECK MY ELIGIBILITY

Semi-Electric Hospital Beds

Designed to provide powered adjustment of the head and foot sections for patients who require medically appropriate positioning. Coverage may be available through Medicare or participating commercial insurance when applicable requirements are met.

Fully Electric Hospital Beds

Provide powered adjustment of the head, foot, and bed height for added positioning convenience. Coverage varies by insurance plan and benefit; additional patient responsibility may apply.

Mattresses & Accessories

Hospital bed mattresses and related accessories are available based on the prescribed equipment, medical need, and applicable payer requirements.

Could Insurance Cover Your Hospital Bed?

Medicare and commercial insurance may cover certain hospital beds when applicable medical-necessity, prescription, documentation, and plan requirements are met. Coverage varies by payer and bed type.

CHECK MY ELIGIBILITY

Medical Need for a Hospital Bed

Medicare may cover a hospital bed when a patient's condition requires positioning that cannot reasonably be achieved with an ordinary bed, positioning is needed to alleviate pain, certain head elevation is medically necessary, or special equipment must be attached to the bed.

Semi-Electric Bed Requirements

For Medicare, a patient must meet the applicable basic hospital-bed criteria and require frequent changes in body position or have an immediate need for a change in body position. Commercial insurance requirements vary by plan.

Fully Electric & Other Options

Commercial insurance coverage for fully electric beds varies by plan. Under Medicare, the total-electric height-adjustment feature is considered a convenience feature and the total-electric bed itself is not covered as reasonable and necessary; upgrade rules may apply when a fully electric bed is furnished.

Hospital Beds FAQ

Please reach us at info@rightnowbracing.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Medicare may cover certain hospital beds for use in the home when the patient's medical condition meets applicable coverage requirements and the required prescription and documentation are obtained. Coverage depends on the type of bed and the patient's medical needs.

A semi-electric hospital bed provides powered adjustment of the head and foot sections. A fully electric bed also provides powered height adjustment. Coverage for these bed types differs by payer and insurance plan.

Original Medicare does not cover a total-electric hospital bed as medically necessary because Medicare considers the powered height-adjustment feature a convenience feature. In some situations, a fully electric bed may be furnished as an upgrade, subject to applicable Medicare upgrade and patient-responsibility requirements.

Coverage varies by insurance company and individual plan. Right Now Bracing can help verify applicable benefits and requirements before equipment is furnished.

Yes, applicable orders and supporting medical documentation are required for insurance-covered hospital beds. Medicare requires documentation supporting the medical necessity of the particular type of hospital bed being furnished, and certain DMEPOS items have additional order-before-delivery requirements.

Coverage depends on the patient's medical need, the hospital bed, the specific accessory, and the insurance plan. Under Medicare, certain replacement mattresses and accessories such as medically necessary side rails, trapeze equipment, and bed cradles may be covered when applicable requirements are met.
